Q: What is the difference between interior and exterior paint?

They are formulated for different exposure conditions. Exterior products are made for UV, rain and weathering; interior products for washability, finish and appearance indoors.Product selection should follow the intended application, substrate, environment and manufacturer instructions.

Area ÷ coverage × coats, plus any allowance you decide to add. The estimator on the tools page does the arithmetic and shows its working.

Coverage figures come from the product, not from us. They vary by product, surface porosity, preparation and application method, and the manufacturer states them on the pack or the technical data sheet. The estimator asks you to enter the figure for the product you are using.

How many coats do I need?

It depends on the product, the surface and the colour change involved. The product system states it. We do not apply a universal figure — the estimator asks you to enter the coat count from the product you are using.

Do I need putty before painting?

Putty levels and smooths a surface. Whether it is needed depends on the surface condition and the finish you want. On a sound, smooth, previously painted wall it is often not needed at all.
