Q: Does exterior paint stop damp?

No. Damp is not automatically a paint problem. Where moisture is entering from a leak, a roof, plumbing or rising damp, the source needs investigating first. A coating over an unresolved source generally fails again.

Can I use interior paint outside?

Interior and exterior coatings are designed for different exposure conditions. Product selection should follow the intended application, substrate, environment and manufacturer instructions.

What if the wall has algae or chalking?

Those are surface conditions that need addressing before coating, and the appropriate treatment depends on what is actually there. Record what you can see on the surface condition check and send photographs — that is more useful than a description.

Does exterior paint stop damp?

Not on its own. Visible dampness can have different causes. Product selection should consider the actual moisture source, substrate and manufacturer system requirements. Where water is still entering, a coating applied over it commonly fails again.
